Bike

The bike I have chosen to do my trip on is a 2011 Suzuki DR650SE.

Why? Well to cut it short it’s virtually bullet proof. With a single cylinder, carburetted air-cooled engine. These bikes basically haven’t changed since the early nineties. simple and easy to maintain, with after market and standard parts readily available all over the world.

With a few modifications, this stock dual sport bike can be transformed into an adventure weapon ready to take on anything you can throw it at.

Below is a list that ill be adding to as I set the bike up.

*Renthal bars          *Corbin seat

*33 litre Safari tank  *Aluminium bash plate

*Foot peg lowereing brackets

*8kg rear spring with re-valved shock

*Heavy duty front springs with fork emulators and spacers

*35mm bar risers

*custom rear rack and pannier racks. To suit Andy Strapz luggage

*grip warmers              *Super heavy duty tubes

*

More fun to come!

  1. Hey buddy!
    Loving following your adventures.
Few questions (as I am going to do a similar thing):
How many highway kilometers do you get out of the 33L tank?
What surfboard rack do you use?
I saw you parked up at Bells a few weeks ago however couldn’t find you to have a chat!

Hope you are having a rad time.

    • Cheers Dude!
That’s awesome! What type of bike you riding?
I don’t push the 30 litre past about 500k sitting on around 100k/phr, I’ve heard of people getting 600. But with gear and the board that’s understandable.
I made the rack my self, I could send you pictures and a few ideas. My Mate just put one on his DR and he can carry a 8ft board!
Thanks for the comment mate, would’ve been hard to spot a stranger in the crowd!

  2. I am riding an 85 XR600.
Planning on doing a short trip up the east coast of Aus surfing and then ultimately South America. How does the bike go at 100 kPh with the board? Are cross winds an issue with a short board?
If you could send through the pictures man that would be great.

    • Epic! Good choice. Sounds amazing, I like your thinking of over seas!
It’s sweet aye, just be on the ball all the time, with trucks and breaks in the trees. My board is 5″10. Run it fins out to keep the aerodynamics in some form.
Ill try to send some through, or ill post them in the pictures page.
      Peace
